Building peace through
community connection,
healing-centered support,
and youth empowerment

History

Roadmap to Peace (RTP) was born from tragedy. During a 5 week period in 2012, six Latino youth lost their lives to violence in the Mission District. This was a wake-up call for our community—existing systems and strategies were failing our young people and something needed to be done. The Mission Peace Collaborative convened a town hall with over 300 community members who demanded a new, community-driven approach. Latinx-led organizations committed to a two-year planning process which included town halls, working groups, and community report-backs. In November 2013, that collective vision became Roadmap to Peace.

Vision
The Roadmap to Peace collaborative initiative is a community-driven effort aimed to facilitate healing and wholeness among Latinx/Indigenous youth in San Francisco. The vision of Roadmap to Peace is for all families to live in peaceful, safe, and flourishing neighborhoods where all youth can thrive, actively connect, and contribute to their community. The purpose of RTP is to develop a holistic, community-based approach to address the unmet needs of youth and their families in San Francisco
Principles
Since our founding, Roadmap to Peace has expanded its program design to meet the evolving needs of our communities. In addition to our core strategies of culturally affirming services, community building, and policy advocacy, RTP now includes School Crisis Support Initiative (SCSI) initiatives focused on peace-building, youth engagement, and early intervention within school communities.

Together, these interconnected approaches center community wisdom and create pathways toward healing, safety, belonging, and self-determination. In partnership with Mission Peace Collaborative and our broader community network, we remain committed to cultivating peace and opportunity for young people and families across San Francisco.
